Video: Lou Reed On Letterman In Chicago

In 1989 I remember my friend Mike Robbins—who was such a huge Lou Reed fan at the time he even had Lou's curly on top / long in back mullet going on—telling me he had an extra ticket to see Late Night with David Letterman when the show made a visit to Chicago. Reed was the musical guest.

I had to work at a bookstore in a mall that night and idiot teenage me didn't have the sense to say "Fuck yes" and declined the offer. That is a decision I have regretted ever since. I finally did get a chance to see Lou at Lollapalooza a few years ago, but by then he was a pale shadow of his once-potent self.

I still refuse to believe Lou Reed is dead. I prefer to think he's permanently retired from the public eye. People like Lou Reed simply don't die.
