The Tribune reports that the Cook County medical examiner's office have officially released the cause of death of Chicago chef and culinary icon Charlie Trotter. According to Cook County Medical Examiner Stephen Cina, Trotter died of "a cerebrovascular accident as a consequence of hypertensive arteriosclerotic cardiovascular disease." In layman's terms a stroke brought on by high blood pressure.

Cina added that "neither drugs nor alcohol contributed to his death" and "there is no scientific evidence to indicate that recent travel contributed to his dead, though there was evidence of a prior stroke." There was original media speculation that Trotter's recent travel was advised against by doctors and was a factor in his death, which this report dispels.

Trotter was found unconscious and not breathing at his home on the morning of Nov. 5 and was pronounced dead at 11:48 a.m. at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. An original autopsy conducted on Nov. 6 was found inconclusive. Trotter was 54.
