Christkindlmarket Boot Lovers Will Be Longing Another Year

By Chuck Sudo in Arts & Entertainment on Nov 5, 2014 4:47PM

Fans and collectors of the Chicago Christkindlmarket mugs will be bummed by the news the popular boot mugs will be missing in action for another year. Instead, there will be two mugs this year and neither of them are boots.

There's a two-color, stein-shaped mug designed specifically for the market for those of us who like our glühwein of the high-octane variety. For the kids in all of us (well, actually just the kids), there is a limited edition snowman-shaped mug that will be sold as part of the market's "Kinder Korner" program for non-alcoholic glühwein and hot cocoa orders.

Organizers for the annual holiday bazaar at Daley Plaza which opens 11 a.m. Nov. 21 say the snowman mugs were too cute to resist. Since the Internet also serves as something of an Greek Chorus for idiots, fans of the market's Facebook page seem divided on the sale of two mugs and the absence of Das Boots for another year.

We're fans of the cheesy boot mugs and have a few in our in wall bar for sipping our own homemade mulled spice wine. It wouldn't be the holiday season in Chicago without it but, like Macy Field's and Willis Tower, we'll be slow to accept the new status quo.

Thanks, Rahm!
