Blackhawks star Patrick Kane is being investigated on rape charges for an incident that took place over the weekend just outside Buffalo, New York, sources told the local paper Thursday.

Earlier this morning, there were vague reports that Kane was being investigated for something very hush-hush in Hamburg, the town just south of Buffalo the hockey player calls home. And now The Buffalo News has spoken to two anonymous law enforcement sources who say a local woman has accused Kane of sexual assault. These sources tell the paper that the woman went to a hospital and underwent tests for a rape kit. So far Kane has not been charged with a crime.

The Buffalo News also says that one other local police agency has been called in to assist with the investigation.

A local ABC affiliate reported that the investigation involved an incident that began at a bar in Evans, which is just southwest of Hamburg. Neighbors told the station that they saw police detectives at Kane's home on Sunday.

The only person to confirm there is an investigation on the record is a rep from the National Hockey League. NHL’s Frank Brown, group vice president of communications, told The Buffalo News, "We are aware of the police investigation and are following developments."

The Hamburg police chief, local DA and Kane's own attorney refused to comment on the reports. Anonymous sources told the local paper that investigators have been barred from commenting on the investigation.
