Some Of The Strange Final Messages From The Fox Lake Cop

By Rachel Cromidas in News on Nov 4, 2015 9:00PM

The Fox Lake police officer who allegedly killed himself after staging a crime scene two months ago to cover up that he was stealing from his police department discussed his money troubles in text and Facebook messages before his death, according to new documents released by the Lake County Sheriff's Office.

The documents detail Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz's communications leading up to his death, including messages he sent to unidentified people about his finances and bank accounts, as well as the radio communications between him and other police officers right before his fatal shooting. At the time, the officer's death appeared to have been caused by three men he claimed he had been pursuing right before he went silent.

The documents detail Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz's communications leading up to his death, including messages he sent to unidentified people and radio correspondence with other cops.

The correspondence suggests that he staged his fatal shooting amid concerns about the finances behind his police department Explorers program for aspiring officers.

Gliniewicz disparages the Fox Lake village administrator in his correspondence from May 13, then alludes that she could get caught for a Driving Under the Influence violation.

"Trust me I've thougit through MANY SCENARIOS from planting things to the volo bog!!!" [sic] he wrote, referring to a nature preserve south of Fox Lake.

On June 25 he seemed aware that his criminal activity was catching up with him: "You are borrowing from that 'other' account," he wrote. "when you get back you'll have to start dumping money into that account or you will be visiting me in JAIL!!"

Updated 11:00 p.m. Unnamed sources have told the Sun-Times and other news outlets that the two individuals Gliniewicz sent these messages to were his wife and son—who are now under investigation.
