It’s five degrees Fahrenheit—also known as 27 degrees below freezing!—as I type. It’s a great time of year to wear several pairs of pants on top of each other, and just generally dress like Joey from Friends when he wears all Chandler’s clothes. Be one with Joey.

You'll literally have to to survive the beginning of this week. A cold front is coming down from Canada, according to the Tribune—yes, it is coming, meaning it has not arrived yet. On Wednesday morning, this front will push temperatures to 10 or more degrees below zero, with windchill.

By Thursday and Friday, temperatures should begin to rebound to civilized winter temperatures in the double, positive digits. So there’s hope!

At the same time, if you go outside underdressed today, you could develop old-ice-cream levels of freezer burn.
