Man Shot Near Buckingham Fountain Wednesday Night

A 22-year-old man was shot near Buckingham Fountain downtown after getting into an argument on Wednesday night.
The man was standing near the fountain in the 500 block of South Columbus Drive. At around 9:45 p.m., he got into a verbal altercation with a group of men who had just stepped off a party bus, a police spokesperson told Chicagoist. One of the men pulled out a gun and shot the victim in the thigh. The victim was taken to Northwestern Hospital and listed in fair condition, police said.
No one is in custody as of Thursday morning.
At least 12 additional people were shot in Chicago on Wednesday, including two fatalities. A 24-year-old man was fatally shot in the chest in West Lawn around 9:55 p.m.; and a 21-year-old man was killed by gunfire at approximately 9:15 p.m. in Oakland, police said.
The shootings capped off the most violent month in Chicago in 20 years.
