The rain washed away any chance of full-tilt Cubs-related revelry on Tuesday, but Pearl Jam singer and preeminent celeb-fan Eddie Vedder managed to spread some joy near Wrigley Field before the weather went sideways yesterday afternoon.

Vedder was hanging out on the roof of Murphy's Bleachers with some buddies, including hockey greats Brett Hull and Chris Chelios, when a fan recognized him. According to the Tribune's Paul Sullivan, the fan tossed up a ball he had nabbed earlier during Nationals batting practice, and Vedder kindly autographed it and chucked it back. Nice arm.

Vedder kept the memorabilia-fairy act up by dropping down some guitar picks, customized with “EV” on one side and Ryne Sandberg's number 23 on the other. Thompson shared some video and photos of the happy memento recipients.

We'll keep our eyes peeled today for more Vedder, who, along with his recent sit-in with street musicians outside Wrigley after a Cubs game, might officially supplant Bill Murray as Most Visible Celebrity Cubs Fan.

The Cubs are scheduled to square off against the mold- and air-conditioning-ravaged Nationals at 3 p.m. today in Game Four.
