We mentioned last week that an off-duty police officer was accused of attacking a CTA bus driver. The bus driver, Ricardo Mendoza, has filed a lawsuit against the city and the officer, Sgt. Thomas O'Grady, for damages over $1 million. WBBM 780 has more information on the story and CBS 2 has the surveillance footage of the attack.

Police Officer Accused Of Assault On CTA Bus Driver

A Chicago Police officer is in hot water for allegedly attacking a CTA bus driver over the weekend after an incident of "bike rage." According to a report, the officer - who was off-duty - was riding his bike in the Loop when he was cut off by a No.62 bus. The officer became angered by this and apparently boarded the bus near the intersection of State and Monroe and attacked the bus driver. The driver was treated at Northwestern Memorial Hospital while two police officers who happened to be on-board the bus arrested the off-duty officer for the attack. A spokesperson for the Independent Police Review Authority told WBBM 780 simply, “Its under investigation." [WBBM 780]

Two more teens, ages 15 and 16 have been charged in last week's brutal, shocking attack against Mercedes Michaels, 17. Each has been charged with one count of aggravated battery in juvenile court. However, it doesn't look like there will be charges against the young man who captured the attack on video via his cell phone. Sauk Village police Detective Robert Grossman said of him, "The guy took the video is not affiliated with either of these groups of people. He just happened to be there." Grossman added that there is still at least one more girl involved in the attack that police are looking for. [Sun-Times]

Man Found Not Guilty in 2008 Downtown Attack

Remember the bizarre story from a little over a year ago about the man who randomly attacked six people in the Loop, including ABC 7's Cheryl Burton (pictured right)? His name is Gregory Perdue, he's from Berwyn, and he was found not guilty by reason of insanity today. From the Sun-Times:

A man was seriously wounded after being stabbed multiple times on-board a CTA Red Line train this afternoon as it traveled north from the Roosevelt stop. A DePaul student sitting nearby, Jamie Huberty, witnessed the attack.

Safia Jilani, 19, pleaded not guilty today to a disorderly conduct charge stemming from her allegedly false claim of an attack at Elmhurst College. Her attorney, Terry Ekl, said she, "is in treatment and I hope the public wouldn't judge her until all the facts are known." Jilani claimed that she had been attacked by a masked gunman on October 9 and made claims of anti-Muslim graffiti. Since the revelation that the attack was faked, she has been expelled from Elmhurst and is currently residing at her family's home while she awaits her December 22 court date, free on $10,000 bond.

Safia Z. Jilani, 19, of Oak Brook has been arrested for filing a false police report stemming from her claim last week that she was attacked by a masked gunman. Elmhurst Police Chief Steve Neubauer said, "The totality of all the evidence, and interviews with staff and students at the college ... concluded that this incident never happened." Some of our commenters brought up this possibility last week. We guess they owe us a "told-ya-so."
