The firefighter, while certainly a sad story, was not part of the "series of violent Lincoln Park attacks."
http://www.chicagobreakingnews.com/2009/08/police-investigate-lincoln-park-beating.html
"Sources said the attack did not appear random or related to a robbery, and there were no indications the beating was connected to recent attacks and robberies in the Lincoln Park and Lakeview neighborhoods."
And the Sun-Times story you linked to states "The firefighter was not robbed, according to police." All of the other attacks were robberies and assaults, this one doesn't seem consistent. And they have 2 people in custody but aren't saying they caught the people that have been involved in other attacks.
I'd say it's inconclusive. They were interrupted in the course of the attack by the police. Maybe they just didn't get a chance to rob him yet.
Still inconclusive?
And the headline is still misleading, the police NEVER said it was connected to the other crimes.
NEVER.
Fine, say it's inconclusive.
If it is, then it's still misleading to state that it's part of the "series of violent Lincoln Park attacks" as that doesn't indicate any doubt but rather is a conclusive statement.
So you think they were there beating him "he was getting kicked in the head...The victim suffered a shattered trachea, broken nose and internal bleeding, according to a law enforcement source. The beating has damaged at least one of firefighter’s lung’s and caused other internal injuries along with cuts and bruises on his face and the rest of his body, another source said. The injuries are consistent with someone who has been not only punched to the ground, but kicked and stomped, too, the source said," and didn't find the time to rob him?
So while they were kicking and stomping him shattering his trachea they didn't have a chance to reach down and take his wallet even though all of the other attacks in the "series" were people quickly being robbed and attacked?
Really?
Oh, wait, look here:
http://www.suntimes.com/news/24-7/1726108,CST-NWS-beating20.article
It was a bar fight, and "He was not robbed, and the attack does not appear to be related to a recent string of brutal Lincoln Park robberies, police said."
Still think it's inconclusive?
The headline is patently false now.
