Bank of America is changing all the LaSalle Bank billboards over to reflect the company's new post-acquisition name, but one lonely sign will be keeping its LaSalle designation for a while thanks to a hawk that's made its nest there. The red-tail hawk has aggressively defended its home on a sign near where S Kedzie and I-57 meet, and according to the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, people can't disturb it. Bird experts say the animal is either incubating eggs or raising its young, which shouldn't take more than another few months.

The past couple of weeks, we've been taking a look at the different kinds of pets that are available for adoption. This includes dogs and cats, as well as rabbits, and all of them come from shelters that take in animals that have been abused or come from homes where the people can no longer care for them. But small and furry animals aren't the only pets that wind up in shelters.

A Prospect Heights couple learned the hard way that not everyone likes the varied wildlife northern Illinois has to offer. Circuit Court Judge Alfred Levinson ordered Halina and Richard Rogulsk to remove their five birdfeeders and not put out any birdseed for six months. According to neighbors, the setup had attracted an overload of local animals, creating a health hazards.

A Lake Zurich man has started using pyrotechnics to rid his neighborhood of pesky Canada geese. Robert Warren recently got village approval for his new de-geeser; in previous years, he used his dog to shoo the birds.
