Soldier Killed In Fort Hood Shooting Remembered In Joliet

The street outside the Fred C. Dames Funeral Home in Joliet was lined with 200 motorcycles yesterday, all mourners paying their respects to U.S. Army Pfc. Michael Pearson, 22, of Bolingbrook, who was one of the 13 people--and three from the Chicago area--that was killed in a mass shooting at Fort Hood earlier this month. The motorcycles outside the funeral home belonged to the Patriot Guard Riders, a group that often attends the funerals of military personnel. more ›

Air Angels Suspends Operations

Air Angels, the emergency transport company based in Bolingbrook that was involved in a helicopter crash in Aurora that killed four people last October, announced yesterday that it is going out of business. Air Angels and its parent company are facing a lawsuit from the family of the 14-month-old patient that was killed in the crash, and their helicopters have been grounded for two months. The full report of what caused the crash has not been released yet, but the the attorney working for the family said that the Air Angels could have prevented the crash if it had installed navigation software and followed federal recommendations to use a terrain avoidance warning system in the cockpit. The company's 33 employees all received a 60-day notice of termination yesterday, and Air Angels says it is working with local hospitals to assure emergency transport services in the region are not compromised. more ›

Bolingbrook's Most Moronic

No, it's not even Drew Peterson. This time, it's 58-year-old John A. Pighee Jr., who tried to have his Bank of America branch shut down after they denied him access to his funds thanks to an out-of-state lien. Rather than, say, calling the bank's customer service line or trying to hash things out with the bank's manager, he tried to get back at them by "disrupting their business," which he did in the form of reporting a fake bank robbery to police. But rather than giving some made-up description of the made-up robber, Pighee described himself. Officers responding to the call contacted employees inside who were unaware of Pighee's call. Eventually, officers took Pighee into custody and have charged him with a felony charge of disorderly conduct. Bolingbrook Police Dept. Lieutenant Ken Teppel said, "Because he did not imply he had a weapon or gun, did not have a weapon, and did not ask for money, there is no charge for bank robbery." more ›

Stacy Peterson, One Year Later

It's been one year since the disappearance of Bolingbrook's Stacy Peterson and her estranged husband, Drew Peterson, took to The Today Show to maintain his innocence and to ask Stacy to, "Show yourself. Put an end to this nightmare." Of course, he doesn't expect her to reappear, as he told the AP: “If I was a little girl and the focus of all this media attention, I wouldn't be coming back. Why would a little girl come back to that?” While Drew makes media appearances, Stacy's family will be marking the anniversary with a candlelight vigil. After Stacy's disappearance, police went back and, after further investigation, reclassified the death of Kathleen Savio, Peterson's third wife, from accidental drowning to murder, adding to the intense scrutiny on Peterson. Will County State's Atty. James Glasgow announced last week that he expected, "a resolution in at least one of these investigations in the near future," a charge Peterson and his lawyer have dismissed as a mere play for votes in next week's election. more ›

Storms Bring Trio Of Twisters

Storms Bring Trio Of Twisters

Chicago Weather Godfather Tom Skilling confirmed that Monday evening's intense storms spawned three tornadoes that produced damage across the Chicago metro area. According to Skilling, Griffith, Indiana was hit by an Enhanced Fujita scale-2 tornado (winds 111-135 m.p.h.) while both Bloomingdale and Bolingbrook were hit by EF1 tornadoes. In addition to the twisters, nearly 2.5 inches of rain fell at O'Hare, already making this the wettest meteorological summer in fifteen years. more ›

Peterson Gun Charge Ruling Today

Bolingbrook's Most Notorious Ex-Husband™ will appear in court today to hear if a Will County judge will toss the gun charges brought against him or if the case will be allowed to proceed.
