Noah For 'Melo?

Noah For 'Melo?

With the NBA preseason not that far away and the failure to land one of the Big 3 still giving just a slight sting to the Bulls as they prep a still pretty decent squad (yes, we're slowly coming around to the Boozer/Kover signings). Now, rumors are afoot they're circling another big-time player but if they're true, they might be ready to give up a piece of the future in return. The latest rumors have the Bulls zeroing in on Carmelo Anthony and while shipping off Luol Deng makes some sense, it seems the Bulls are also considering shipping away Joakim Noah as well since the Nuggets are reportedly hesitant to take on Deng and his contract, which still has four years left on it while 'Melo's expires at the end of this upcoming season; Noah becomes a restricted free agent in 2011. Of course, the league's collective bargaining agreement expires at the end of this upcoming season and most observers think a prolonged lockout is imminent so who knows what could happen? Still, as good as 'Melo is, with his contract expiring at the end of this season and no guarantee to re-sign him, we're not sure it's worth giving up Noah, part of the young core of the team. more ›

Obama Balls With The Bulls

Obama Balls With The Bulls

Over the weekend, President Obama, back in Washington, D.C. after a stop-over here in Chicago last week, assembled a team of basketball stars and legends for a special charity for game for wounded troops. Among the players - which included Bill Russell and Magic Johnson - were current Bulls Joakim Noah and Derrick Rose. Media were barred from the game meaning we'll likely never see any kind of epic dunk Carmelo Anthony slammed over our Commander-in-Chief or if Obama was able to break Magic's ankles on a sweet cross-over. All we know is the above photo the White House released in which we assume Noah and Rose are laughing him. more ›

McGrady To Bulls Less Likely

McGrady To Bulls Less Likely

While ESPN's Marc Stein reported over the weekend that the Bulls signing of Tracy McGrady appeared imminent if he was healthy, it now seems that after yesterday's tryout and meeting that T-Mac's joining the Bulls likely won't happen at all. While the seven-time All-Star has made no secret of his desire to play in Chicago, the affection is not mutual at this point. more ›

No Redick For Bulls

No Redick For Bulls

The 2010 Free Agent season continues to feel underwhelming for the Bulls. Or, at least, that's how we think it feels when we started getting our hopes up that the team would get J.J. Redick. It wasn't so long ago we had visions of Rose, Noah, and LeBron... Anyway, as expected, the Orlando Magic waited until the last moment to match the offer the Bulls made to the restricted free agent shooting guard which means he's staying put in sunny Florida. And means the Bulls' big free agent pick-ups remain Carlos Boozer and Kyle Korver. Which, you know, isn't awful but isn't what we had our hearts set on either, like when you really hoped your parents would take you to Chuck E. Cheese for your birthday but all you got was the crappy, run-down McDonald's PlayLand across town... more ›

Boozer To Bulls

Boozer To Bulls

With the shot of getting Wade and Bosh gone and odds of getting LeBron getting smaller by the minute, ESPN is reporting, who else, "sources" as saying the Bulls have reached a deal with Carlos Boozer worth $80 million over five years. Of course, the money for the Bulls to sign LeBron at the max offer is still on the table and having Noah, Rose, and now Boozer on the starting five may help King James. But with Bosh and Wade already committing to Miami, conventional wisdom says it's South Beach or staying home for LeBron. We'll see. more ›

Is The NBA Trying To Tell Us Something? (Updated)

Is The NBA Trying To Tell Us Something? (Updated)

No, really. We thought ESPN was going batshit overboard with this but the NBA itself is jumping into the insanity. If you go to the NBA's store to buy a "custom road jersey" for the Bulls, the sample jersey is ... yep, LeBron's new #6. As opposed to the "00 - Your Name" jersey of other teams. Interestingly, the Knicks, Heat, and Nets don't have the same option. [via ChicagoBreakingSports] more ›

Bulls Prep For Free Agent Push

Bulls Prep For Free Agent Push

With contradicting media reports flying all over the place helter-skelter and speculation about whether or not there was a Free Agent Summit over the weekend, we're finally getting down to business in the biggest NBA free agent class ever. In just a hair over 10 hours - at 11:01 p.m. Chicago time - teams will be free to contact NBA free agents, including LeBron James, Chris Bosh, Dwyane Wade, Joe Johnson, and Dirk Nowitzki (plus several others). While no contracts can be signed until July 8, there will still be plenty of action. All eyes will be on Ohio where LeBron James will entertain reps from just about every team that has the cash to woo the (still title-less) superstar. Both the Knicks and the Nets are expected to meet with him on Thursday. As for the Bulls, there's no timetable for their visit yet, but a report from ESPN today claims the Bulls' delegation will include everyone at the top of the organization: Jerry Reinsdorf as well as coach Tom Thibodeau, general manager Gar Forman, and executive vice president John Paxson (who would do well to wear those three championship rings he won with the Bulls). In case you wanted more speculation and fuel for the rumor-mill fire, ESPN sat down Bill Simmons and Dan LeBatard with Pardon the Interruption's Tony Kornheiser and (Chicago's own) Michael Wilbon for a half-hour of discussion on potential player destinations. While somewhat entertaining, though, the show, like everything else, is pure speculation. more ›

LeBron Jame$?

LeBron Jame$?

We're still a month away from NBA free agency season and there's plenty to talk about with the big upcoming market (a bit more on that tomorrow) but already, eyes are not only turning towards LeBron James but also to the trail of green that might follow. University of Illinois at Chicago economist John Skorburg tells Crain's that if LeBron were to make the United Center his new home for six years, he could bring in as much as $2.7 billion to the city. Well, provided he leads the Bulls deep into the playoffs and wins a ring or two. And in the category of "getting ahead of ourselves," Crain's speculates further: more ›

The Morning After: Rose Leads Bulls To Victory

The Morning After: Rose Leads Bulls To Victory

The Bulls have been able to put that behind-the-scenes nastiness behind them and now have the inside track to be the first round victims of LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers after they edged the Celtics 101-93. Down by eight early in the second quarter, a big 18-2 run flipped the scoreboard and put the Bulls ahead. Of courser, the Celtics wouldn't go easily and fought back in the second half. But the Bulls held off the run, led by Derrick Rose who dropped 39 points on Boston and Kirk Hinrich who had 30. The highlight of the game, though? Rasheed Wallace, scoring on his own basket. more ›

The Morning After: Only The 'Hawks Survive

The Morning After: Only The 'Hawks Survive

The Blackhawks kept pace with San Jose for the top spot in the west as they eased past the Colorado Avalanche 5-2. Colin Fraser, Jonathan Toews, and Patrick Sharp all scored to give the 'Hawks a 3-0 lead. After the Avs scored twice - once late in the second and again mid-way through the third - the 'Hawks countered as Fraser scored his second of the game and Kris Vertseeg sunk an empty-net shot. The 'Hawks remained tied with the Sharks - both with 111 points - for the number one seed heading into tomorrow's finale when the 'Hawks close the season out against the rival Detroit Red Wings (2 p.m., CSN). more ›
