If you like your summer entertainment light, campy and frequently hilarious, you’ve probably already bought your tickets for It Came From The Neo-Futurarium VI: Curse of The Neo-Futurarium. In case you haven’t or (gasp!) missed the first V years, the Neo-Futurists’ summer tradition dredges pop culture memories from childhood, younger adulthood and your history books every Thursday night, reading scripts from movies and TV shows whose original, sincere impulses have been diminished by midnight screenings and years of ridicule.

When Chicagoist was little, we remember catching glimpses of softcore porn on Cinemax when no one was looking. We watched wide-eyed, trying to figure out what the hell was going on. We also remember as girls, learning much from late-night OnTV, keeping the sound turned down and the giggles to a minimum.

Though it makes the rest of the Chicago International Film Festival seem sort of anti-climactic, awards were handed out last week to some of the festival films. The big winner of the Gold Hugo for best film? My Nikifor/Moj Nikifor from Poland. Paczkis for everybody! The film won the award, in part, because of a “cinematographic form that creates a dialogue between art and compassion.” We bet that dialogue contains a lot of words like...
