Happy Memorial Day, everyone! Today is the reward for making it through a weekend of little sunshine and a lot of rain. Now get to grilling.
Your Morning Wake-Up Call for May 30, 2011
Today's Weather: Good Day, Sunshine!
Today, we promise, will be royal wedding free. You know what else today will be free from? Rain. The sun returns and with authority. Skilling Central says we're due for "unlimited sun, lighter winds, noticeably milder temperatures by afternoon." Expect a high of around 64 degrees. Great way to close out the week, wouldn't you say.
Today's Weather: Leaden
While you're still debating the strength of the Lollapalooza lineup, bring an umbrella. It's a typical April day in Chicago: rainy, windy and mild with a high of 67. On second thought, just call in sick.
Today's Weather: Cat-and-Dog
Let's start off the last week of the month with a little shot of tranquility, shall we? The National Weather Service is forecasting up to 1.5 inches of rain coming before the rain comes to an end sometime Wednesday. Today kicks the storms off in earnest with thunderstorms this afternoon and into the evening. Heavy rain overnight with a projected high today of 57. Hope you all got your fill of lamb, ham, or whatever you had for Easter. That's your warm layer for today.
Today's Weather: Rise
Happy Easter, everyone. Easter certainly is a sign of Spring, and so is the opening of Buckingham Fountain. Go ahead and put on the shorts today, the high temp is reaching 60 degrees. We'll have the sun peeking between clouds most of the day, as well, before the rain comes back around later tonight.
Today's Weather: Tepid
It looks as though the rain's past us, if only for a day. The sun's even peeking out through the clouds right now. We'll have more of that as the day continues, leading to the highest temperatures we've had all week at a forecast of 63 degrees.
Today's Weather: Drizzly
Good Morning, everyone. It's nice to wake up to weather perfect for putting a shot of whiskey in your coffee (or a shot of coffee in your whiskey, as it is). Today's weather, in short, builds character. The forecast calls for a piss drizzle most of the day and clouds, with a better chance of harder storms later in the day and into the night on the North side, which means Mother Nature's looking out for the White Sox out South. But it's light sweater weather with a high of 47.
Today's Weather: Nebulous
If this weekend's weather was two sides to the same coin, today would definitely be tails, people. All that sun we got to bask in is obscured by some serious cloud cover and a chance for thunderstorms most of the day. But the high temperature is expected to be 70, so we have that going for us. Could we possibly be able to store the humidifiers for the season? (Doubt it.)
Today's Weather: Play Ball!
Before CMD-SHFT-DANCE (thanks to those who came out last night, by the way), we went to Gold Star for some pre-event drinks. We forget who excitedly said, "baseball season's here, Chuck" maybe Steven, maybe Jake but we're glad they did. Anyway, the Cubs open at Wrigley Field against the Pirates and the forecast for today calls for mostly cloudy skies and rain with a high of 49 degrees. The wind is also supposed to be blowing in to the Friendly Confines today.
Today's Weather: Tweak
The weather isn't here yet, but it's getting there. Today's projected high of 47 will be accompanied by partly cloudy skies and winds out of the northeast at 9 MPH, gusting to 20 MPH at times. We're almost ready to take the plastic down from the windows and shelve the humidifiers for the season. Patience, as they say, is a virtue.
Today's Weather: Throwback
Woke up this morning so glad we dry cleaned our sweaters early. They'll be getting a workout in the upcoming days with a return of colder than average temperatures and some chances of light snow. The projected high of 26 will feel colder thanks to some blustery winds from the northeast. Bundle up, readers.
Today's Weather: Deluge
We woke up before sunrise to clouds and rain. That's going to stick with us today and tomorrow. Skilling is predicting a chance of thick hail at times today and tomorrow, with severe storm warnings throughout the day and winds gusting up to 35-40 MPH at times from the east and a high of 45. Days like these are where we count our blessings that we work from home
Today's Weather: Luminous
Happy Monday, folks. And break out the light jackets today because it's what we call "Baby Bear weather outside" just right. It's mostly sunny today with a high of 42 degrees. The winds coming out of the south only make things better today. Except for some thunderstorms expected Thursday, the week will only get better.
Today's Weather: Icy
It's Election Day, folks and, as the saying goes: it's all over but the shouting. The polls are open. Get out and vote, but be careful walking to your polling station. There's some black ice out there as a result of yesterday's wintry mix melting and re-freezing. We're supposed to get about 1-2 inches of snow today in the city. (Not enough for dibs, folks.) Expect a high temp of 30 degrees today. Then we warm up again tomorrow.
Today's Weather: Thaw the Turkey
God, it was nice outside yesterday. But, despite the warmer temperatures, we thought it would have been sloppier outside. Not so much, actually. The forecasters are calling for the post-blizzard thaw to begin in earnest today, with a predicted high of 41 degrees, more sun than clouds this afternoon and winds gusting up to 30 MPH out of the southwest. Still way better than sub-zero or single digit temperatures.
Today's Weather: Potato, Po-TAH-to
We looked at the Accuweather forecast, which said "some sun." The illustration for today's weather at Skilling Central shows clouds, but no sun. Split the difference between the two and it's going to be partly cloudy today with a high in the mid-to-upper 20s. The silver lining here? Accuweather amended their predicted snowfall from 4.6 inches to 1.1 inches. Both Accuweather and Chicago Weather Center are calling for a dusting.
Today's Weather: Tuesday's Gone
Did everybody get a chance to bum rush the supermarkets last night and stock up on things before the blizzard warning kicks in at 3 p.m.? Good. Because now the waiting begins. Every meteorologist in town is predicting anywhere from 18-24 inches of snow between Tuesday and Wednesday afternoons (we'll have more on the freakout in a bit). And that's just when the blizzard warning kicks in.
Today's Weather: Gray and Breezy
Happy Sunday, everybody. It's supposed to be a day of rest, but not for the weary, or us. Yesterday was beautiful outside with the temps. How good was it? We biked to Summit and back. Today will see the mercury dip just a bit, with overcast skies most of the day a projected high of 29 degrees and winds out of the north-northeast increasing into the afternoon.
Today's Weather: The Plunge
Hope you all enjoyed the weather yesterday, because this weekend's forecast is not good. We start the quick drop into a brief deep freeze today with a predicted high of 27. The temps go down from there.
Today's Weather: Satisfying
Happy 2011, folks! We're in that part of the new year where we're still writing "2010" on our rent checks and other things we need to index. That'll change. What won't change for the time being? The weather. Last week's rains washed away all the snow, ice and any reason for dibs. But snow is forecast later in the week. For today, enjoy a high of 33 degrees with clouds later and winds coming out of the southwest at 12-18 MPH.
Today's Weather: Viento del Sur
As of the time we filed this morning's weather post (6:10 a.m.) we've got shorts and Timberlands on ready to walk the Chicagoist Office Manager. The rain that started yesterday is still coming down, lightning just struck in Bridgeport and there was a low rumbling of thunder. The high is expected to be 55 today, but this is the type of weather that leads to people opening their coats and then catching a cold, so be smart.
Today's Weather: Slushee
Pack the galoshes and waders, crimestoppers. The thaw that started yesterday kicks into high gear today. The forecast calls for rain to come in, wash the snow away and reveal how many of your neighbors don't pick up after their dogs when it snows. The high is expected to be 40 degrees with the winds still blowing in from the south.
Weather Forecasters See Stormy Weather For Christmas
The Chicago area has a winter weather advisory for this evening, as we're expecting anywhere from one to four inches of snow and/or freezing rain. But that could serve as a prelude to a bigger storm later in the week. For those of you dreaming of a White Christmas, be careful what you wish for.
Today's Weather: Not Sexy
So, how did you enjoy Halloween, heretofore known as "Stripper Alternative Appreciation Night?" "Sexy" this, "sexy" that. Try harder next year, people.
Tornadoes Touch Down in Suburbs
Today’s forecast calls for more thunderstorms. Hopefully, though, not as severe as last evening’s storm, which brought multiple tornadoes to Cook, Will and Lake Counties in Illinois, parts of Wisconson and Northwest Indiana. This morning there are reports of six people injured by the storm system that many are saying caught them by surprise. Joe Rodawold of Wilmington told the S-T:
