The corner of Dempster and Chicago in Evanston still retains some vestiges of its hippie past, which isn't necessarily a bad thing. It actually reminds us of the less annoying parts of Lincoln and Wicker Parks. We've been fans of Bagel Art in Evanston for as long as we can remember; we usually have a sesame seed bagel with plain cream cheese every morning on the way to work. They also make a few good sandwiches for a quick bite during the work day, fuel for grinding out miles on the old Green Bay Road bike trail during summer, or just futzing around Evanston.

As many predicted, the Bears cut QB Chad Hutchinson yesterday, just days after naming Kyle Orton the new starting QB and dropping Hutchinson to 4th on the depth chart. Hutchinson signed with the Bears following Rex Grossman's season-ending knee injury. Slow to pick up Terry Shea's overly complex playbook, he didn't see action until Dec. 5th. Why were the Bears hiding this guy all that time? Signed following Rex Grossman's season-ending injury, Chad Hutchinson finally got a chance to play, and all he did was throw 3 TD passes in route to a 24-14 upset of the Minnesota Vikings. Following Thursday's debacle in Dallas, the Bears signed veteran QB Jeff George to a 1-year contract. George, the first overall pick in the 1990 draft never lived up to the lofty expectations and developed a reputation for being difficult. Which may explain why he played for 5 teams in 12 years and has been out of the NFL since early in the 2001 season despite good skills. But he and his agent have been lobbying the Bears since Grossman got hurt, claiming he's found a new passion for the game and has adjusted his attitude.
