Imports with Panache at Panozzo's Italian Market
For those looking for a real old world experience and truly authentic ingredients, there is no substitute for a neighborhood Italian grocer. You have seen them in old mafia films like The Godfather and they are storied in East Coast cities with large Italian-American populations like New York and Philadelphia. The mercato Italiano, with its imported meats, cheeses, pastas and pestos is almost thing of legend. Thanks to Panozzo's Italian Market in the South Loop, this legend is alive and well right here in Chicago.

August, A Grocery Store
August is the kind of local boutique grocery store you would find in a Meg Ryan movie - the store is charming, the owners are helpful and you feel cheery every time you leave. The only thing missing is Meg Ryan, even better. The small, bright space is filled with locally grown, seasonal produce, restaurant quality meats and fish, and even a line of homemade aprons. Carefully selected baking and cooking ingredients line the shelves, the cheese and charcuterie selections are an easy answer for entertaining unexpected weekend guests, and pre-packaged snack foods and cereal are kept to an eclectic minimum.
