Well, kind of. We recently enjoyed The Lonely Island's (which includes current SNL cast member Andy Samberg) "I'm On A Boat!" video (featuring T-Pain). Pretty clever and who doesn't love mermaid references? But it gnawed at us a bit: where had we seen it before? Turns out, we had seen it from former SNL great Will Ferrell who, with pal John C. Reilly, had done a video called "Boats 'n Hoes" for their 2008 film Step Brothers. Both are inspired bits of humor and get us laughing on another cold, gray winter Tuesday. [Language very NSFW]

We're referring of course to the Golden Globes ceremony, which has been axed because of the writer's strike. It was announced today that Instead of the long-winded, smarmy fashion show we've seen in the past, the Sunday NBC telecast will instead be a bare-bones press conference padded out with lotsa clips (all the better to separate the commercials with, my dear). Says Jorge Camara, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association: "We are all very disappointed that our traditional awards ceremony will not take place this year and that millions of viewers worldwide will be deprived of seeing many of their favorite stars celebrating 2007's outstanding achievements in motion pictures and television." Oh, the sacrifice! Yup, we here in the Chicagoist offices are shedding tears right alongside you.

Our pal Gena was at the John C. Reilly/Dewey Cox thing yesterday (where she took the picture above and a hundred others), and she tells us Reilly-as-Cox was amazing, "never breaking character and ad libbing with the best of them, sweating like a rock star and gyrating like one, too." We know that we're not the only ones in the past few weeks to see Vince dashing around town in a Santa suit. Apparently there have been sightings in Wicker Park and on Michigan Avenue among other places. Yes, wearing a Santa suit in January: that's exactly why the man is so well-paid. He's starring in Fred Claus, which has been shooting here off and on since November and is due to wrap next month....

A sharp-eyed Chicagoist reader named abmarfia spotted a movie being filmed on Wayne Ave. just north of Bryn Mawr and snapped some pictures of it before uploading them to Flickr with a "chicagoist" tag. Before we could start our detective work to figure out what movie it is, another Chicagoist Flickr stream contributor named pantagrapher closed the case.
