Billy Corgan put on a puppet show. Yes, you read that right, a puppet show named Gothageddon. It features appearances by -- among others -- a teddy bear ringside announcer, the bald one himself, Robert Smith, Siouxsie Sioux, and, wait for it, James Iha. All characters are voiced by Corgan, often rather hilariously. While we have been greatly disappointed by Corgan's output over the last few years, and with his insistence on squeezing every last penny he can out of the Smashing Pumpkins brand, we have to admit that Gothageddon proves that the dude does still have a sens of humor and for that we're grateful. And amused. more ›

Sometimes you’ve just got to have a parade. But if you’re Columbia College’s Manifest Urban Arts Festival, you have the Spectacle Fortuna Parade of Creativity. Wishing good fortune upon seniors and graduate students before they hit the brick wall that is a 9.4 percent unemployment rate, the Spectacle Fortuna will fill the streets with hundreds of Ray Bradbury-inspired giant puppets, the punk marching band, Mucca Pazza, and ephemera created by the talented students, faculty and staff. more ›

Chicago sibling trio The Safes have just released a new video for "The Sky Is Falling" from last year's Sight Of All Light EP. The frantic beat and descending guitar melody melds quite nicely with a bunch of puppets freaking the fuck out. more ›

Just when we thought the Siskel Film Center had reached its maximum level of awesome, they've pretty much blown our minds by announcing a month-long Jim Henson retrospective. It runs from November 8 through December 4. It features all the highlights you'd expect (including The Muppet Movie, The Great Muppet Caper, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth) as well as a bunch of stuff you won't see anywhere else. more ›

It's been over a week since we last mentioned our favorite embattled Chicago MC, but luckily he's making more news for us: Kanye and fellow Chicago rapper Rhymefest are teaming up with Comedy Central to create a new puppet show, described as "hip-hop meets the Muppets." Tentatively titled Alligator Boots (we have no idea), the show is produced by the same guys that made Crank Yankers and has already filmed a pilot. It seems that video for "Champion" was a bit of a test-run for the show (no pun intended). The show, currently slated for a 2009 premiere, would follow a format similar to the Muppet Show in that each week it would be hosted by a celebrity guest (the pilot was hosted by Kanye, of course). Kanye has also been in talks with HBO about a series focusing on his life, with Curb Your Enthusiasm producer Larry Charles connected to it, but nothing has really advanced on that front, according to MTV. more ›

Avenue Q,” the Tony-award winning Broadway sensation has finally made its way to Chicago after beginning a national tour last summer. The musical follows the lives of a group of recent college graduates while struggling to make ends meet as young urbanites. “Avenue Q” is unlike other musicals, though, in that it stars a cast of puppets who sing outrageously funny, candid, and un-P.C. songs about their life: “It’s OK If You’re Gay,” “The Internet is for Porn,” and “Everyone’s a Little Racist.” more ›
