There have been a lot of things said on this site about Taste of Chicago over the years. There are over 750,000 people who head downtown every year to sun, frolic and get their fill of giant turkey legs and corn on sticks. 'Course, that isn't all Taste of Chicago has to offer; even with Chicago Gourmet set to launch in September, Taste is still the food event for the everyman.
Last year we dedicated our "Beer of the Week" columns for the month of June to highlight selections by you, the readers. The responses from you, both in recommendations and response after we made our selections, actually surprised us.
We often fall back on really out-of-date stereotypes, like that the majority of all journalists are men, or that Tom Cruise is a good actor. One of them — that, unless it's spring break, airline passengers are primarily businessmen — is being directly challenged by American Airlines.
A few weekends ago, we were sitting in our apartment, thinking of all the people we would need to purchase gifts for this holiday season. Parents? Check. Significant Other? Check. Younger Cousins? Check. Check. Check. The list seemed manageable, and we felt like maybe Christmas wouldn’t take a ridiculous bite out of our wallet. But as we thought about it more, we began to think of all of the people to whom a “holiday tip” might be in order. After tallying up the potential cost, we began to feel a little dizzy and visions of sugarplums were suddenly replaced with visions of eating Cup o' Soup for a month.
Chicagoist has been remiss in missing the missives on missing recycling. And so we pick up the story with Mayor Richard M. Daley's press conference yesterday: It's all your fault. Ours, the citizenry, we mean. But not the city's. And certainly not the Mayor's. Nope.
