It's another scorcher today as, like yesterday, the city remains under an excessive heat warning with an air quality alert thrown in for good measure. You've made us almost forget about the long, dark, cold Summer of 2009 so, come on. Let off the gas a bit. We're about to head into a two-day period which may be the hottest stretch we've seen all year. So hot that the Weather Wizards at the National Weather Service have issued an Excessive Heat Warning through tomorrow night. High temps will be in the low 90s and the heat index is expected to easily cross 100. Oh, and it's nice and humid, too. This is the first Excessive Heat Warning for the city since 2006 and with today's heat we'll hit 42 straight days with a high temperature of 80 degrees or higher, leaving us just 14 short of tying Joe Dimaggio's record. more ›

Yesterday wasn't that hot. At least, it seemed no hotter than the usual Lollapalooza weather to us. But today? Today will be hot. Today will be the day you definitely need to apply sunscreen liberally and if you're going to Lollapalooza, for God's sake skip the beer line and go straight for the water. Highs will reach the mid-to-upper 90s and heat index values could reach around 105. Seriously. It's 9 a.m. when I'm typing this and according to the N.W.S., the heat index is already 87. Muggy conditions continue overnight with lows in the upper 70s. Not only that, but there's a chance of sever storms according to the NWS. Nice. And as for the rest of the week? Our warm, humid late June run continues today. If hot and humid is your thing, today's a great day for you. Sunny skies hang overhead and temps will reach the lower 90s in many places today. Coupled with some high humidity readings, it's going to be a steamy day. Be careful if you're outside a lot, as areas south and west of the lake will see heat indexes above 100 degrees, which has prompted heat advisories in some counties. It's going to be a scorcher today as a Bermuda High brings us some warm, humid air. It'll be a great day to head out to one of the area beaches or to grill out in the back yard.
