Teen Shot, Killed By Off-Duty Police Officer Following Another Shooting
Yesterday afternoon in the Woodlawn neighborhood, an off-duty police officer shot and killed a teen who he said shot another person. It began at around 3:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon when the police officer reported seeing 17-year-old Corey Harris shoot another person near the intersection of 69th St. and King Drive. According to the Tribune:
The officer witnessed that shooting and chased Harris to the 6800 block of South Eberhart Avenue. The officer "announced his office," then opened fire on Harris, striking him, said Chicago Police Officer Michael Fitzpatrick, a police spokesman.more ›
Woodlawn Landlord Dies
The 77-year old Woodlawn landlord who was allegedly set on fire by an ex-tenant earlier this week has died as a result of the incident. Harlan Hayes had burns on over 90 percent of his body and died early Sunday morning. Police have charged 28-year old Donald Hardy with attempted first-degree murder in the attack.
How Not To Handle A Housing Dispute: Landlord Set On Fire
A 77-year old Woodlawn man was apparently doused with gasoline and set on fire by a former tenant early Tuesday morning. Police found the man after responding to a call of a fire in the 6300 block of South Ellis Avenue. The man was taken to University of Chicago Hospitals with severe burns and was last reported in critical condition. Witnesses were able to identify the suspect as a 28-year old former tenant of the man, who owns an apartment building in the neighborhood. Police are still searching for the suspect.
