Chicago Magazine's Bold List

By Chuck Sudo in Food on Oct 18, 2007 3:15PM

2007_10_18.chicagomag.jpegThe November issue of Chicago Magazine is on newstands, and the cover story is, simply put, open for discussion if you're a gourmand.

Their list of 124 favorite dishes from restaurants throughout the greater Chicago area includes dishes from restaurants we expected on the list (Alinea's "Pineapple with Bacon Powder", e.g.), entrées we completely agree with (the bone-in filet mignon at David Burke's Primehouse), dishes from restaurants so new that we're surprised they made the list (Table Fifty-Two's goat cheese biscuits) and dishes on which we find ourselves diametrically opposed to Pollack, Ruby, et al. (Chalkboard's fried chicken).

As we mentioned, the list is geared toward discussion. Lord knows if we had the opportunity to add to that list, we'd include personal favorites such as Polo Cafe's Eggs Benedicto XVI, which come to the table complete with a framed photo of Pope Benedict XVI, moto's "ballpark" dessert, which is pastry chef Ben Roche's twisted take on hot dogs and nachos, escargots bourguignon and the brie, walnut and rear tart flambee at Koda Bistro, or salmon al carbon at Mundial. See, everyone has an opinion.

Let's see if we can't put together our own list of favorite dishes in the comments, shall we?
