David Schwimmer in Our Town

2008_6_6.schwimmer.jpgDavid Schwimmer is officially on board for Lookingglass Theatre Company's production of Our Town. Perhaps you recall the kerfluffle with Chris Jones back in January, when Jones reported that this was already a done deal and Schwimmer denied it. Anyhow, it's on like Donkey Kong now.

Schwimmer will play George Gibbs, which seems weird because Schwimmer is 42, and at the beginning of the play, George is in high school. Joey Slotnick, a classic hey-it's-that-guy (you might remember him as Merill Bobolit from Nip/Tuck) and Lookingglass ensemble member, is set to play the stage manager, which for our money is the most interesting character in the show.

I saw a breath-taking performance of Our Town by the Hypocrites at the Chopin theater a few weeks ago, and I haven't stopped thinking about it. Or crying. Seriously, I wept like a child. The Lookingglass's production would have to be the single greatest staging of the classic ever to come even close to the Hypocrites' work. [Trib, image via Lookingglass]
