Burr Ridge Auction House Investigated For Memorabilia Fraud

2008_08_05_wagner.jpgAs if the diploma fraud case wasn't enough, federal agents are now investigating Burr Ridge auction house Mastro Auctions, Inc. in connection with possible memorabilia fraud charges. The feds were looking into accusations that the house "doctored" cards and "shill bidding."

Mastro Auctions made news this weekend for selling the famed 1909 Honus Wagner card for $1.62 million at the National Sport Collectors Convention, which was held here in Chicago. It's the same convention that had offered beleaguered Cubs fan Bartman $25,000 for an autograph.
