The "Death Pool" Is Now Closed.

By Karl Klockars in News on Dec 10, 2008 3:30PM

Now that we've all had a day to wrap our brains about our future-ex-governor trying to sell everything in the state that wasn't nailed down (and a few things that were as well), we'd like to congratulate one Mr. MikeDL for his nearly spot-on call in our Rod Blagojevich "Death" Pool, just 8 days off.

Runner-up awards go to one miss Spav1 for her mid-holiday prediction of December 27th (19 days) and I_h8_toyota... with November 15th (25 days). In any absence, the Academy will accept those awards on their behalf. And now, a look back at some of the banner predictions, questions, assumptions and dreams from the Death Pool. Ah, we were all so innocent then.

"But MAN if he got ARRESTED? That'd be so BITCHIN!"

"To see him in handcuffs as a cop shoves his head into the car door while his sausage fingers tousle that corrupt mane will be a day I will buy drinks for everybody in this comments board."*

"For the indictment, Fitzgerald will need to assemble some hard evidence (subpoena docs) which will be postponed ad nauseum by various motions by Blogorod's legal team. Once indicted he'll put off resigning for no particularly good except to enrage everyone."

"I think he'll appoint himself to the Senate when Obama's elected President and then he'll be indicted soon after."

"Gosh, you people actually think the state of Illinois is going to get around to do anything about this guy before the end of his term? I doubt it. He'll finish out his term. The indictment will likely come about two years after he's no longer in office."

Since it's safe to say that yesterday's events have effectively closed the book on his real political career, we're calling a close to this particularly morbid chapter of Chicagoist. Next up: a shiny nickel for anyone who successfully names who the next elected Governor of Illinois will be.

*The conspiracy theorist in me thinks that since the Chicago Tribune held off on their story about the shakedown, that they got the tip that Blago was going to get arrested and they've got the perp-walk video somewhere. Since that video hasn't come out yet (and WGN would be wall-to-wall with it if they had it), I'm assuming that we'll never get to see the Handcuffed Haircut.
