Comedy
Three-man troupe Batterymouth kicks off its 6-week stint at the Apollo Theater tonight with opening act The Fling. The comedy trio bases a 30-minute sketch smorgasbord on just one audience suggestion, incorporating skits, slam poetry and humorous monologues into their shtick. It's a marathon in world full of sprinter comedy. For a full list of opening acts, click here.
Batterymouth, Apollo Theater, 2540 N. Lincoln, Wednesdays through Feb. 25, 8 p.m., $10, Purchase tickets here.
Literature
San Diego-based author Steve Weinberger will sign his debut book No Air Guitar Allowed, at the Hard Rock Hotel tomorrow night. The book, a no-holds-barred, humorous look into the clichés that haunt our concert-going experience, exposes the nuances of such characters as the "Gal Pals" that congregate at the Lilith Fair, as well as the "Whoo Crew," "Indie Guru," "Divorced Guy," and of course "That Bitch" who keeps knocking into you. Organic cocktails will be available to purchase while you wait in line.
Hard Rock Hotel, 230 N. Michigan, Jan. 21, 6 - 7:30 p.m.
LGBT
DateandDash will host a speed dating event for single lesbians Thursday night at Lizard's Liquid Lounge in Avondale. The recommended age for attendees is 21-39 and the cost is $35. Wha? Shouldn't Ladies Night be free? But then again, the chance to find love is priceless.
Lizard's Liquid Lounge, 3058 W. Irving Park, Jan. 22, 8:30 - 10:30 p.m., $35.
Free Food
We're poor and hungry, so we're happy to have found another place to scam some free grub. Those in The Hideout's inner circle, that being staff and regulars, along with local chefs, will be sharing different soup concoctions with the public every Wednesday night from now through early Spring. Though the soup and bread are technically free, any donations will be forwarded to the Greater Chicago Food Depository.
Hideout, 1354 W. Wabansia, Wednesdays, 5 - 8 p.m., Ends April 1.
