Chicagoist's "Beer of the Week": Oatgoop

Collaborative ales between breweries are nothing new. It's a wonderful chance for two (or more) breweries to put their heads together and give their customers something truly special. Collaborative Evil and Bison's annual Reunion ales are good examples. Meanwhile, Larry Bell and Dirk Naudts are hard at work with their planned Bell's/De Proef collaboration later this year.
Three Floyd's Nick Floyd is no stranger to working with another brewmaster. In Mikkel Borg Bjergsø from Mikkeller, he's found a kindred spirit with a website that doesn't translate to English very well. "Oatgoop" ("Havregoop" if you're fluent in Danish) is an oatwine and it is potent, folks. Think of a cross between Gumballhead and FFF's annual Resplendous anniversary releases and you have a blueprint of what's in store for you, if you have an unopened bottle. It's sharp-tasting, dry on the finish, pours a deep amber with loads of hops. It's a hearty beer that calls for a hearty meal: lamb or pork come to mind.
We found our bottle at LUSH University Village. Oatgoop has also been spotted at West Lakeview Liquors and Binny's. Kuma's Corner has also been known to carry Oatgoop, if you ask nice. If they have it, pair that beer with the Dark Throne or High on Fire burgers. Oatgoop is Chicagoist's "Beer of the Week."
