Kane Addresses Cabbie Incident

By Marcus Gilmer in News on Aug 17, 2009 4:40PM

At the opening of U.S. Hockey camp today in Woodridge, Illinois, Blackhawks star Patrick Kane spoke briefly, addressing his recent arrest for allegedly assaulting a cab driver in his hometown of Buffalo, New York. While he didn't comment directly on the incident due to the ongoing legal proceedings, he did issue an apology, saying, in part:

Because I've put myself in being in the wrong position at the wrong time I've caused a lot of pain for my family, my hometown of Buffalo, the city of Chicago, the Chicago Blackhawks, and obviously the great fans we have here in Chicago and for that part, I sincerely apologize.

Kane's cousin, James, was also charged in the incident. Kane is participating in the U.S. Hockey camp in a bid to earn a spot on the roster for next year's Winter Olympics.

Update: Kane went into a bit more detail after practice. The Trib's got audio.
