With everyone practically losing their collective gourds over the new Kanye West single “Power”, it looks like ‘Ye is putting on a full court blitz in terms of recapturing popular imagination through prog-rock samples and beat-heavy production. (As great and underrated as 808s & Heartbreak is, it’s not exactly full of club-ready bangers.) Gearing up to release his fifth full-length, reportedly called Good Ass Job, West simultaneously released a mastered version of “Power” and its cover art through his recently revamped website. The Awl points out that the portrait of West was done by New Hampshire-based artist George Condo which, oddly enough, exaggerates West’s mouth to the degree of making it appear monstrous. Can’t imagine what would be the inspiration behind that angle.
