The drama ain't over for Jay Mariotti yet. Arrested in August for an alleged domestic violence incident involving his girlfriend, Mariotti has now been charged by Los Angeles prosecutors with with seven misdemeanors. The charges break down as: two counts of domestic violence with injury, two counts of domestic violence, one count of grand theft, one count of false imprisonment, and one count of vandalism. The max sentence for each charge is a year in jail. He's due to be arraigned Friday morning.
The former longtime Chicago Sun-Times sports columnist that everybody loves to hate got into a heated argument with his girlfriend in the wee hours of the morning of Saturday, August 21 at a Santa Monica, California, nightclub. The couple then brought the fight back to their Venice residence, where it allegedly got physical. Following the incident, Mariotti found himself suspended from both his gigs at AOL Fanhouse and on ESPN's obnoxious "Around The Horn."
We know we've had fun with Jay in the past but there sure as hell isn't anything funny about this incident. If you know someone that's a victim of domestic violence, the Illinois Attorney General's office has a solid list of resources to consult.
