Late Sports Notes: Kane Out With Knee Injury; Konerko, White Sox Still Talking

By Chuck Sudo in News on Dec 7, 2010 10:00PM

Kane Out Three Weeks: That knee injury Blackhawks winger Patrick Kane suffered during Sunday night's game against Calgary (which the NHL is inexplicably listing as a "lower body injury") will keep the All-Star out for three weeks, maybe more. Jeremy Morin has been recalled again from Rockford to fill out the roster. The good news in all this is that Marian Hossa could return as early as this weekend.

Konerko, Sox Continue Talks: SI.com's Jon Heyman said early this morning that The White Sox and first baseman Paul Konerko are close to a three-year deal worth $12.5 million a year. Sun-Times White Sox beat reporter Joe Cowley, however, indicated that the Konerko camp is hellbent on $15 million a year. If that happens, GM Kenny Williams is going to have to rebuild a bullpen with smoke and mirrors. Konerko earned $12 million last year and Sox Chairman Jerry Reinsdorf has a soft spot for the Sox captain. And what Reisndorf wants, reinsdorf gets.

What Reinsdorf apparently doesn't want is Kerry Wood. Cowley indicated that Wood would be too expensive of a signing, even if they don't bring Konerko back.

UPDATE: Cowley is now reporting that talks between the White Sox and Konerko have broken down. (For now.)
