Crawford Making the Most of Opportunity

At just 25-years-old, Blackhawks rookie goaltender Corey Crawford is on his way to create some goaltending déjà vu, slowly but surely dimming Marty Turco’s spotlight.

Crawford started the season with a few struggles, staying at 1-4-0 his first five games, but since then he has more than proven himself with his solid performances in the net. The rookie will start again tonight when the Hawks take on the San Jose Sharks. A win tonight would push his winning streak to eight games. A win tonight would also tie Denis DeJordy for the Blackhawks’ longest win streak for a rookie goaltender and put him one away from tying Glenn Hall for longest winning run by any Blackhawks goaltender.

While the Blackhawks have had to make some roster adjustments, they plan on sticking with Crawford in goal for awhile. If it ain’t broke don’t fix it, right? Especially considering their star-studded roster is already experiencing some difficulties with Marian Hossa being put on injured reserve Wednesday and Patrick Kane still out from a left leg injury.

Jeremy Morin, who scored his first NHL goal Wednesday night vs. the Dallas Stars, will likely be recalled from Rockford with another fellow IceHog Saturday. The Blackhawks proved Wednesday that they can handle the ice without their stars, and with their bench being as strong as it is, we should see another solid effort and minimal effects from the recent roster changes.
