Temper's Second Go Brings Night Slugs' Kingdom To Beauty Bar

kingdom_0721.jpg The story, or rather, saga behind this Thursday's Temper night at Beauty Bar is quintessential drama. Less than ten days ago the proposed bill featured three major players from Night Slugs, electronic music's most talked about new label: Bok Bok, Girl Unit, and Kingdom. It had us more excited than any other club night we can remember. For many, it was a pipe dream turned reality. Then, like some cruel joke, work visa issues arose and both Girl Unit and Bok Bok (both of the UK) were stripped from us. But, when all was bleak and spirits were down, Temper's organizers made the best of a bad situation and managed to piece together a new bill that is still, undoubtedly, one of the best we've seen in a long time.

In what will be just the second Temper, Thursday's lineup still includes Kingdom (he's American, so no visa issues), and has added support from Chicago's own DJ Deeon, and two of Ghetto Division's crew, Charlie Glitch and Sigma. Kingdom splits time on both Night Slugs and A-Trak's Fool's Gold label, but it's his recent work on the former that have placed him among electronic music's finest. Incorporating R&B, deep house/tech, UK funky, and a whole bunch of other forms, Kingdom's become a part of dance music's shift towards something fresh and exciting. Check his That Mystic EP for proof. His support, DJ Deeon, will surely bring that ghetto house heat, and we all know Ghetto Division's prowess on the mixers. We highly suggest starting your weekend early by hitting up one of the city's most exciting new nights.

Temper is Thursday, at Beauty Bar, 1444 W Chicago, 10p.m., $5, 21+
