Chicago Chef Week Shows Off Some New Faces

By Anthony Todd in Food on Mar 11, 2011 7:30PM

2011_3_11_ChicagoChefWeek.jpg At this time of the year, we get discount fatigue. Between Groupon, LivingSocial and all the rest, and Chicago Restaurant Week deals, it's hard to get us excited. Plus, as we're sure many of you have noticed, the same restaurants tend to show up again and again on these lists of deals and discounts. That is why, when Chicago Chef Week (March 20-26) first appeared on our radar screen, with exactly the same pricing as Chicago Restaurant Week, we yawned and moved on. Until we payed closer attention to the list, and noticed some spots that rarely offer discounts or special meals. The real story of Chicago Chef Week is not that it is yet another restaurant discount, but that it is a chance for you to dine at some new spots for only a little bit of dough.

We did a side by side comparison of the lists for Chicago Chef Week and Chicago Restaurant Week, and here are some of the results. These restaurants didn't run deals for Restaurant Week but are participating in Chicago Chef Week, so if you're a fan, now might be the time.

  • Avec
  • Big Star
  • Publican
  • Green Zebra
  • Hot Chocolate
  • MK
  • Mana Food Bar
  • Nana
  • Nightwood
  • Sola
  • Taxim
  • Custom House

This isn't a complete list - check out the site to make reservations. And be careful - while Chicago Chef Week offers both lunch and dinner prices, not every restaurant is doing both. Be sure to check before you go. But if any of your favorites are here, and you haven't gotten a discount meal, now might be a good time.

There are also plenty of other restaurants that did participate in Chicago Restaurant Week, and if you missed them, go right ahead and book. Just be sure to do your homework - sometimes there are better dealsto be found.
