Like his fellow Midwestern singer-songwriter, Devin Davis, Andrew Bird recently covered a beloved musical Muppets classic. Behold the idiosyncratic, whistle-and-fiddle-happy existentialism of "Bein' Green," featured on an upcoming Muppets tribute album and premiered by NPR last Thursday.

Over at National Public Radio, Bird waxes philosophical about the song's narrative, saying it "shows [listeners] how to celebrate what makes us different, even indulge some delusions of grandeur, but in the end temper them with humility." Not bad, for a felt puppet. Listen to Bird's version of "Bein' Green," from The Green Album here.
