Lollapalooza Releases Schedule For Live Streams

By Tankboy in Arts & Entertainment on Aug 2, 2011 7:20PM

2011_08_lolla_youtube.png When Lollapalooza announced it would live stream select acts on YouTube this year we suspect quite a few folks got pretty excited if they couldn't get tickets in time or didn't want to deal with the (inevitable) heat. We wondered which bands would either make the cut or allow themselves to be broadcast all over the interwebs. Now we have the answer!

A number of the headliners seem to have opted out, but Foo Fighters, Coldplay and My Morning jacket are all allowing their sets to be streamed. As for the rest, if you're watching from your couch and want our recommendations, here they are:

  • Death From Above 1979 is a can't-miss (assuming their set isn't completely obscured by the dust the masses losing their shit in Grant park are sure to kick up.
  • Depending on the skill of the camera operators, the Black Lips' set will either broadcast the sheer electricity of their stage show via bits and bytes or come across as a frenetic mess. We're hoping for the former.
  • Ween. So, so weird yet so, so tight. Should be a good one to watch.
  • We admit we DO NOT get the appeal of Grace Potter but since every single photo we see of her makes it appear as if she's just going absolutely insane we're guessing her set should be an interesting one to watch that might still transfer beyond the live setting.
  • The last time we say Cage The Elephant was at Subterranean with about a dozen people. They're way bigger now but their show as led by their off-his-rocker singer back then and we can't imagine fame has mellowed him much (if at all).

Check out the streaming schedule and let us know either who you're excited to see or who you're upset to not see on there.
