Ford Motor Company announced today that it has reached an agreement with United Auto Workers Union to add 1,100 new jobs at its Chicago plant in the Hegewisch neighborhood on the South Side. Mayor Rahm Emanuel's office helped to broker the deal that will bring $200 million in capital to Chicago.

Ford is adding about 5,750 more unionized hourly jobs nationwide. The company announced plans to in-source from Mexico, China and Japan and double its commitment to add jobs in the U.S. It's good to see one of America's automakers holding steady financially. Ford was the only major automaker to not take bailout money. Plus, it's nice to see a jobs addition for Chicago that doesn't involve a Wal-Mart.

Back in 2009 our own Kevin Robinson took a tour of Ford's Taurus plant in Chicago. Check out the photos from his trip. Also, President Barack Obama came to tour the facilities in summer 2010, too.
