A reminder: Stephanie Izard's book launch for her new cookbook, Girl in the Kitchen, is tonight at Salvage One (1840 W. Hubbard) starting at 7:30 p.m.

Esperanza Spalding, winner of the 2010 Best New Artist Grammy and the woman who broke millions of Beliebers' hearts in the process, comes to Symphony Center Friday night. Spalding's concert will draw liberally from her most recent album, the bestselling and critically lauded Chamber Music Society. (8 p.m.; 220 S. Michigan Ave.; tickets available at cso.org.)

Pop-Up Restaurant

The James Hotel's JBar has been host to a series of pop-up dessert bars all summer. David Burke's Primehouse pastry chef Jove Hubbard is rolling with the seasons and offering tarts Friday from 3-5 p.m., or whenever they sell out. Choose between Kentucky Derby Pie with bourbon ice cream or Apple Cheddar Pie with salted caramel ice cream for $5 each (cash only). (616 N. Rush St.)
