Get Thee To The Bean: Luminous Field Ends Monday

By Samantha Abernethy in Arts & Entertainment on Feb 17, 2012 7:00PM

For the last week, Chicagoans have been flocking to the glistening tourist trap in Millennium Park. And we're talking about native Chicagoans, the kind who might usually roll their eyes when a visitor asks to go to that shiny kidney thing.

Anish Kapoor's Cloud Gate is one of the most photographed objects in the world. The Bean is fun, but most Chicagoans don't go see it more often than they have to.

But last week the unique new art installation Luminous Field opened, turning the Bean into a big reflective canvas for a video and light installation created by local artistic collective Luftwerk.

It is enough to make Chicagoans look at that shiny thing in a whole new way. Luminous Field ends on Monday, Feb. 20. Don't miss out.

Luminous Field runs from 6-10 p.m. Friday and Saturday, 6-9 p.m. Sunday and Monday.
