Garden Creativity On Display At Gnomedependence Day

Every good garden needs a gnome. But why buy a boring old generic gnome at Home Depot when you can create your own? On the Fourth of July, the Peterson Garden Project hosted "Gnomedependence Day," an incredibly creative fundraiser that challenged entrants to design the best garden gnome. We've been slightly obsessed with the event since it was announced, and not just because we giggle every time we say "Gnomedependence."

For $25, contest participants got a blank gnome. They were all displayed on Wednesday at Global Garden. That wasn't the whole celebration - there were food trucks, live music and a ceremony MC'd by radio host Mike Nowak.

The level of detail and creativity in some of these gnomes is astounding. We only wish that, in addition to the contest, they'd auctioned off the winners. If they had, a gorgeous new gnome would be in our garden right now. Since we didn't get one, we'll have to be satisfied with the pictures.
