Back in June, we totally geeked out over Emporium Arcade Bar, the Wicker Park bar that combined craft beer and classic arcade games. Two places like this officially constitute a trend - Headquarters Beercade, another beer/video game-themed bar, is opening in Lakeview this Thursday.

The name comes from a play on words: the froth on beer (Head) combined with the tokens used to play arcade games. The bar boasts 37 different classic arcade games including Double Dragon, Burgertime, Mario Brothers, Donkey Kong, Tetris, Contra, and Gauntlet. Here's a full list. A cute twist - their change machines will dispense some specially-marked coins that can be redeemed for prizes. The bar and its website are festooned with some amazing video game-themed graphic art that we want to frame for our walls.

The beer selection includes 16 taps, and if the extensive menu descriptions are any indication, someone there cares about beer. They also will serve cocktails, including a (now-obligatory) malort concoction named after the first person to beat PacMan.

This calls for an arcade bar smackdown! Stay tuned.

Headquarters is located at 950 W. Wolfram.
