Get Filthy With John Waters At The Harris Theater

2013_5_3johnwaters.jpg In our humble opinion, the two most quotable filmmakers alive are Steven Soderbergh and John Waters. Soderbergh gave a "State of the Cinema" speech recently that practically gave us chills; Waters is pretty much quotable whenever he opens his mouth. He's been dubbed the Pope of Trash with good reason; even if his more recent movies feel almost genteel, we dare you to try and watch Pink Flamingos without getting nauseous. We're hardcore cinephiles and even we haven't watched the whole thing. We always bail at the chicken scene.

He's toiled day in and day out for more than 40 years to entertain and/or offend people, and along the way he's picked up some hilarious stories. He's been performing a version of his one-man show This Filthy World for years now, organically refining it, making it dirtier and more tasteless. The 2006 film version (directed by Jeff Garlin!) is really funny, but there's nothing like seeing the man in person. Wish granted: on May 21 he brings the show to the Harris Theater. Tickets range from $55 to $75; or, if you really want to see him up close, you can attend a special after-show benefit which includes dinner and drinks for $100. (Although, depending on which stories he tells, you may not feel like eating.)

The Harris Theater for Music and Dance is at 205 E. Randolph Drive. Tickets are on sale now.
