Pencil This In: AG47 Annual Showcase At Hairpin Arts Center

AG47, the Logan Square-based arts mentorship nonprofit which focuses on fostering the creative expressions of pre-teen and teenage girls, has their fifth annual showcase this evening at Hairpin Arts Center from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. There is a $10 suggested donation.
The showcase provides an opportunity for AG47 participants to show off their art to the public, who may also purchase the art if they are so inclined.
AG47's students collaborated with adult mentors over a four-month period to create art that revolves around what ultimately becomes the theme of the showcase. Last year, the theme of the showcase was "infectious," a theme that was expressed using superhero portraits, performances, petri dishes and paintings. This year, the theme of the showcase is storms, which, according to a news release, will be expressed through visual art, poetry and performance art.
The storms theme was used as a catalyst to address philosophical questions about the girls' lives. AG47 further broadened the implication of the storms theme on their Facebook page.
"Globes holding a cataclysmic force, predictions for weather patterns coming into your life, a performance piece we have built upon an atmospheric disturbance: these are just some examples of the art we have to transport you into the eye of the storm," the AG47 Facebook page writes.
Beverages and snacks will be available, and all proceeds fund AG47's future arts programming for Chicago girls. So weather any storms (literal or metaphorical) and support a good cause.
Hairpin Arts Center is located at 2800 N. Milwaukee Ave.
