Weekend Picks: Food Archaeology, Whiskey Class, Farm Roast, Sportsman's Club Barbeque

Looking for something to do this weekend? Here are four great events including a whiskey class and a pig roast at Goose Island's Barrel Warehouse.

Saturday, June 7

Food archaeologist Paula Marcoux will speak about ancient cookery and her new book Cooking with Fire from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Kendall College (900 N. North Branch Street) Tickets are $5 ($3) for students.

Looking to learn how to enjoy whiskey? Jeffrey Mull is teaching a Whiskey Tasting Like A Pro class at Tiamat House (3609 W Belmont Avenue) at 7 p.m. Attendees will enjoy four straight whiskies, four whiskey cocktails, and dinner. Tickets are $60.

Sunday, June 8

Slow Food Chicago hosts their annual Farm Roast at Goose Island's Barrel Warehouse (605 N. Sacramento) from 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. Chef and farmers will help roast a pig and there will be a selection of Goose Island brews. Tickets are $70.

Sportsman's Club (948 N Western Ave) is launching their supper barbecue series at 4 p.m. pairing food from Publican Quality Meat's Cosmo Goss with Local Option brews. The menu includes Santa Maria-style tri-tip along with pickled green tomato pico de gallo, baked beans and bolillo rolls. $20 gets you the food as well as a beer and a shot of whiskey.
