Get ready for the U.S.'s second-largest Uniqlo store, Chicago fast-fashion fans. The three-story, 60,000-square-foot flagship store at 830 N. Michigan Ave. will even have its own full-service Starbucks when it opens in October, according to Crain's.
Executives from the Japanese retailer hope that store will become an anchor of the Magnificent Mile, which already has popular fast-fashion chains H&M, Topshop, Zara and Forever 21.
The opening of the Chicago store will mark the debut of Uniqlo's new mobile app that will send special coupons and styling tips to customers' phones, Crain's reported. It will also include an ad campaign with local celebrity chefs Stephanie Izard and Alfredo Nogueira and the rappers Rockie Fresh and Tink.
The Michigan Avenue store will be Uniqlo's first Midwest location and executives say they plan to expand in the Chicago area eventually. They have already opened stores in the New York City, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Boston and Philadelphia metro areas since entering the U.S. market in 2005.
Uniqlo is known for its reasonably-priced, classic apparel, dubbed "lifewear," which is available in a wide array of colors. Jeans, cashmere, HeatTech inner-wear, ultra-light down jackets and designer collaborations are some of their specialties.
