2 Men Have Been Charged With Murder After LSD Robbery Attempt

Two people have been charged so far in connection to a robbery attempt in which a group chased a man and a woman into traffic on Lake Shore Drive, where both victims were hit by cars, the woman fatally.

Devonte M. Dodd, 20, was charged with two felony counts of murder, one felony count of attempted armed robbery, and a misdemeanor count of mob action, Chicago police announced Sunday. Dodd allegedly approached the victims—Pamela Johnson, 32, and her boyfriend Eugene Jackson, 43—and announced he intended to rob them. He did so with Semaj Waters, 18, who was also armed, according to police. Waters was charged with the same crimes as Dodd on Friday.

The two men were among a group of more than ten young people that approached the victims in the 700 block of North Lake Shore Drive at 1:30 a.m. on May 30, according to surveillance footage of the incident. Two days after the attack, as new, clearer surveillance footage of the perpetrators surfaced, they reportedly began turning themselves in to police. It is unclear if Dodd and Waters were among those who turned themselves in.
