Video: People From Other Countries Try Malort, Find It Malort-y

Whether you enjoy it personally or not, Malort is a thing in Chicago. You can get it at O'Hare. You can eat it in a pie. You can buy it with an ease that defies the laws of supply and demand.

In other countries, though, Malort is an unknown quantity. Although now less so. In this video, Malort virgins from the U.K., Switzerland, the Netherlands, Turkey, Scotland, Germany, France and Australia—as well as right here in the US of A—try it for the first time, and experience... that experience.

One participant, before drinking, finds the Faces of Malort blog's "slogan" section, reading aloud such unofficial slogans as "Malort: Tonight's the night you fight your dad."

This is what many would call "foreshadowing."

"It's literally like someone sprayed bug spray in my mouth," another participant observes, after a shot. Many participants move from rage to deep sadness as they realize Malort has an aftertaste as well as a regular taste.
