Clear the Shelters weekend is just a day away, but even if you can't provide a forever home, local shelters always a need for foster families. That's especially true right now at the PAWS Chicago rescue—which on Wednesday said it was at capacity and issued an urgent call for foster assistance.
"We are in urgent need of foster families to step up and provide a loving temporary home for our dogs, cats, puppies and kittens, which will in turn make space available for us to save more lives," said Stacy Price, PAWS Chicago Director of Animal Operations, in a release. "When we are out of room, we are unable to save as many animals as we want. Animals, particularly those with medical issues, need loving care to heal and thrive, away from the stresses of shelter life."
As of Friday afternoon, PAWS Chicago's website spotlights 16 dogs and 20 cats that need temporary foster digs. You can see a small handful of those recovering furry ones in the gallery above. They include Benton, a 6-year-old Beagle mix who's on the mend from a double ACL surgery; Jones, a heartworm-positive senior Cocker Spaniel and good-looking, old scruff muffin; and Galaxy, a 3-month-old kitten who's being treated for ringworm and whose sad-cat eyes are kinda doing a number on us right now.
If you think you'd be a good match for one of the needy pups, you can help him or her (and PAWS) out by completing a foster application here or emailing the rescue at foster@pawschicago.org.
Also on the rescue-pet beat, the Twitter-phenom folks at WeRateDogs are still raising funds for Chicago's own One Tail at a Time ahead of Clear the Shelters. If your heartless landlord won't allow an ailing senior doggo in your residence, consider a donation there or to PAWS Chicago in lieu.
