The Morning After: 'Hawks Even Up, Peavy Shuts Down Royals

'Hawks Rally Past Canucks
The Blackhawks rode a big third period rally to an even bigger 4-2 Game Two win in their Western Conference semifinal series against the Vancouver Canucks, tying the series at 1-1. It looked grim early; after Saturday's whooping, the Canucks got out to a quick 2-0 lead in the opening five minutes of the game. But the 'Hawks settled down and got a goal of their own by Brent Seabrook which cut the lead in half. After a scoreless second period, the 'Hawks pulled even in the third period when Patrick Sharp scored a nifty short-handed goal. And they took the lead with only 90 seconds left when Duncan Keith fed Kris Versteeg on the left side and Versteeg rocketed a shot past Vancouver goalie Roberto Luongo. Patrick Kane scored an empty net goal 42 seconds later to ice the game for the 'Hawks. The series now shifts to Vancouver for two games, starting with Game Three tomorrow night (8:30 p.m., CSN).

Peavy, Sox Shut Down Royals
Gone was the Jake Peavy of 2010 and, instead, we saw vintage Peavy as he shut down the Royals to lead the White Sox past the Royals 5-1. Peavy pitched a sterling seven innings, scattering four hits, allowing no runs, and striking out nine, earning his first win of the season. Alexi Ramirez had a homer while Andruw Jones and Alex Rios both knocked in a pair of runs each to provide enough offense for the Sox who had struggled over the weekend against the Yankees. As for Peavy, he seemed optimistic after the outing: "Anytime you win is good. It's still going to get better but tonight, the arm strength and location all came together and we dictated the game, which is always a good thing. We made some good plays behind me. Just a nice, clean win, that's what you're looking for. This is what I came here to do." The Sox hope to keep the roll going tonight when Gavin Floyd leads them in game two of their series (7:10 p.m., CSN).
